 A TC3 home on a solid foundation

This project was the first TC3 building to be constructed using screw piles in conjunction with a Firth Ribraft foundation in a residential environment. Piletech’s in-house engineering team worked to find a solution to comply with the TC3 guidelines. The design challenge was to have a pile that was flexible enough to withstand 300mm of lateral spread, while still being rigid enough to carry the required loading from the building.

This project was a learning experience for all parties involved; Piletech generally works as a subcontractor, however on this project worked directly with a homeowner with limited construction experience. In this case, a collaborative approach was needed to assist the client in building his new home successfully.

The project was successful from both the client’s and Piletech’s perspective, with screw piling proving to be the ideal piling solution to future proof the client’s home against further seismic activity in Christchurch. Feedback from the client was positive: “the team of guys who put the piles in were careful, considerate and were a pleasure to have working on our property, as were the guys that cut the piles and filled them with concrete. Our experience with Piletech and their exceptional team is one I feel could not have been better.”
